Biratnagar was established as town in the year 1971 B.S when the headquarter of Morang District was transferred from Rangeli to Biratnagar.

------- It was divided into 9 wards when panchayat was introduced in 2004 B.S. It was made town municipality in 2008 B.S. and was converted into Sub-Metropolitan City in 2052 B.S.

------- Biratnagar is not only and industrial town but also the capital of language, culture and politics of the country, Nepal. Taking as the base of their working place, the great persons of our country Krishna Prasad Koirala, Matrika Prasad Koirala, B.P. Koirala, Mana Mohan Adhikari, Mahananda Sapkota, Shovachandra Khanal, Shankar Prasad Gautam and Ramlal Golcha passed away from Biratnagar.

------- Biratnagar is a historical town of our country. The old folk take this town as the capital of the ancient king, Birat. The ruins found in Bhediyari, southern side of Biratnagar are still in investigation. Other places arround Biratnagr like Dhanpalgadhi, Kichakbodh Pond, Panchali, Gograha etc. have added the dignity of this place.

Biratnagr is great in itself. So it has been thought as the record capital of the country. National revoulation in many fields has taken place from Biratnagar. Political activities have been run from Biratnagar, Social revolution has been started from here, Educational revolution in the country has been uplifted from Biratnagar. Biratnagar has been introduced all over the world due to its overseas trade. So it has kept its name in a dignified way.
